The University of Naples “Federico II”

Founded in 1224 by Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, the University of Naples “Federico II” is the oldest public university in Europe.

Surrounded by beauty and culture, the University “Federico II” spreads across the whole city of Naples, from the historic city centre to the suburbs, where the largest university campuses are located. At present, it is one of the largest universities in Italy and the most important one in the South. It hosts about 100,000 students enrolled on its courses as well as more than 1,000 foreign students per year.

The University of Naples “Federico II” is also well-known for its high-quality research. According to NTU Rankings, the University of Naples “Federico II” is indeed one of the best 150 universities in the world, and it was ranked among the Italian top-10 universities by QS World University Rankings, with one of its highest scores being Very High Research Output.
